Welcome to System 8 of the Guitar Daily Workout. System 8 is the last book of the INTERMEDIATE series. Though books 5-8 are called intermediate, the student will have gained real mastery of the most important scales and arpeggios on the guitar upon completing this series. Most who go through all 8 Systems will know their guitar neck better than 99% of players out there. And, though mastery of scales, arpeggios, and exercises don’t in and of themselves make someone a great guitarist, they certainly are the primary building blocks to becoming one.
If you complete all 8 Systems, you should feel very confident and be very capable on your instrument.
In System 8, we will take the 7th arpeggios we learned in System 7 and learn to play them all in one position; a vital tool for improvising, especially in jazz. We will also learn 3-on-a-string pentatonics. This will not only stretch your hands but will also teach you a new way to play pentatonics that will allow you to use a more legato approach, thus increasing your speed dramatically. And, finally, we will again tackle hexatonic scales, but each week we will play all forms across the neck in a different key.
